Hello! We’re Alan and Gini – friends, business partners and massive fruit enthusiasts. In the autumn of 2020, the idea of Fruit Works was born from our shared desire to create meaningful work for ourselves that would have a positive impact on communities and the environment.
With Alan’s fruit growing expertise and Gini’s love of all things tree-shaped, Fruit Works has blossomed into a dynamic business with social and environmental values at its core.
You can now find us zooming across Leeds and Bradford on our bikes, planting little fruit trees, pruning big ones, and providing workshops and training for budding fruit growers.
We are based at our tree nursery in West Leeds where we cultivate a variety of fruit trees and soft fruit bushes.
Fruit Works is a co-operative enterprise, meaning that it is collectively owned and democratically controlled by us, its members. Each member has an equal say in how the business is run and has access to education, training and work opportunities within the co-op’s activities. This way, co-ops create sustainable livelihoods in ethical businesses where everyone is valued.
As a co-op, we are dedicated to upholding the values of democracy, equality, social responsibility and caring for others. We are committed to supporting the communities we work with and assisting other co-ops. You can learn more about the principles and values shared by co-ops here.
Are you part of another co-op and want to discuss how we could work together and support each other? We’d love to hear from you!
