Fruit tree specialists in West Yorkshire
Fruit Works Co-operative is a social enterprise helping communities in Leeds, Bradford and the surrounding areas to plant and maintain fruit trees. Our mission is to enable more people to grow their own fruit as a step towards building resilient local food systems.
Join our Orchard Harvest Share Scheme for Autumn 2026
We look after a historic orchard in East Leeds filled with rare and interesting fruit varieties. You can sign up to receive a share of the harvest, hand picked and naturally grown, delivered to a collection point near you in five installments.
Planting. Picking. Pruning. Propagating.
We provide a range of services based around the seasonal cycles of fruit trees. As well as doing this work ourselves, we are committed to sharing our knowledge and providing training to people new to growing fruit.
Why Fruit Trees?
Trees are essential to all life. They capture and store carbon, make our air breathable, create shade, prevent floods and provide habitat for wildlife. Fruit trees do all this, while also producing delicious and nutritious food.
Fruit trees show us the true meaning of abundance. Once established, they require minimal maintenance - an annual prune and perhaps some extra watering during hot, dry spells - and in return they will produce fruit for us to pick and enjoy year after year.
For many people, fruit can be an entry point into growing and harvesting their own food, as fruit trees are hardy perennial plants that are much easier to grow than vegetables.
People are becoming increasingly disconnected from their food sources and from each other, and fruit trees have the potential to bridge these gaps. By growing more of our own fruit, we can reduce our dependence on chemical-sprayed imports and share the abundance with our friends and neighbours. Orchards can be vibrant community spaces that invite people to gather, nurture their environment and celebrate the harvest together.
We have a simple vision for a future in which everyone has picked fruit off a tree and eaten it.
“The work you have done with our Year 6 is invaluable and has exceeded our expectations. Hugely successful and I can highly recommend to all schools. Children of all ages get so much out of it. Thank you Fruit Works. Excellent delivery.”
— Angela, teacher at Westbourne Primary School
Tree nursery
Grown by our small team and volunteers at our nursery in Leeds, we have a wide selection of quality fruit trees available for local collection or UK-wide delivery.
Fruitful Bradford
Every year, tonnes of home-grown apples go to waste in the Bradford District. We have established a coordinated juicing library and service by working with four community hubs in Keighley, Shipley and Central Bradford. This helps direct this abundance of fruit into homes and away from being wasted. To find out more about the service and how you could use it, click the button below.
