Pruning Trained Fruit Trees

  • Lidget Green Memorial Garden Clayton Road Bradford, BD7 2LT (map)

Tickets available on our Eventbrite page.

A trained fruit tree is a tree that has been carefully shaped and guided as it grows. This is done by pruning and tying its branches to a support (like a wall, fence, or wires) so it grows in a specific shape—such as flat against a wall or in a fan shape.

Common shapes include espalier, fan, and cordon.

Training your fruit trees is great way to grow productive fruit trees in a small space, so perfect for little gardens or even just a sunny wall in the city.

This course will show you how to prune a fruit tree to maintain its desired form as well as health and fruit productivity.
