Top Grafting: Learn how to grow multiple fruit varieties on one tree

  • Redcliffe Community Orchard Redcliffe Avenue Keighley, England, BD21 2RG United Kingdom (map)

Top grafting is a method of grafting cuttings (scions) onto a compatible tree that is already growing. This is useful if the tree is not producing fruit you want, or if you want to add more fruit varieties to your tree. For example grafting fruiting cherry onto a flowering cherry, or pear on to hawthorn. Or some tasty apple varieties instead of apples you don’t like!

We will discuss the theory of top grafting and demonstrate the process on our own mature apple trees.

The orchard is accessible from the end of Redcliffe Avenue or Devonshire Street (between #190 & #192). It is a 20 minute walk from Keighley station. Cars can be parked on Devonshire Street.

In order to make this workshop accessible to as many people as possible, tickets are available on a Pay As You Feel basis. We recommend a donation of £10, but this can be more or less depending on your circumstances.
