Maintenance Pruning: Maintaining the Health of Mature Fruit Trees

  • Burley Park Orchard Cardigan Lane Leeds, England United Kingdom (map)

Apple and pear trees should be pruned in winter to maintain a healthy shape and size and to ensure they will fruit plentifully for future decades.

We will teach you the theory and practice of winter pruning mature fruit trees.

What to bring

If you can, please bring along a sharp pair of secateurs, loppers and a pruning saw. Tools will be provided if you don’t have your own. Remember to dress appropriately for the outdoor weather!

Participants will receive a copy of Chloe Ward's excellent pruning guide "for real people with imperfect trees".

We recommend bringing a hot drink in a flask as it's likely to be cold weather.

Location

The orchard is accessible from the south entrance to the park on Burley Road or the west entrance on Cardigan Lane. It is a 5 minute walk from Burley Park train station.

Tickets available on Eventbrite.
